barista bug

Untitled

In the midst of all the world things going on, Matt and I are wedding planning. I brought out my computer to look up some things and thought I would update again to try to get into the habit again of writing here. I'm still unsure of my purpose, but I suppose for now, I'll just do what I always do and blather.

Last week I had some extra espresso training. I think it was more so to get everybody on the same page, but I joked to everyone I could've taught it. It was really fun, although a little bit gross in the tasting stages. Although I have made coffee for years, I haven't done it in an official-feeling capacity. I left that class pulling hearts consistently in my foam (oh yeah, I mostly bypassed the whole micro foam portion as my skills are sick as hell) and wanting to steam milk all day. Bitten by the barista bug again.

milwaukee by car

I started a series within my 365 this year. It's called MKE By Car. I drive around a lot and decided to document how I see Milwaukee most frequently. If you click the link, you'll be taken to my portfolio where it explains a little bit more about the project. And I make sure to always pull over before taking photos -- safety first!

I could look back and be disappointed with things I did not do this year, but then again, I can also look back and see all that I did do, documented or not. I can also get excited to always strive to be better, do better, no matter if it's the new year or three months in. I'm finishing this after coming home from seeing Wild, which was a life-changing book when I read it. I was deep down in the dumps, and reading what Cheryl accomplished in order to work through her suffering made me feel empowered. I haven't done anything in years for New Years Eve just because going out and having to wait until at least midnight to go home does not appeal to me. I'm here, rambling, watching the Simpsons with my boyfriend and my cat. There's nowhere else I'd rather be. Cheers to more nights like this and a good new year.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ken Kornacki and Moxie of Moxie Loves MKE. I was a nervous wreck, coaching myself that they were normal people, too. I usually start smiling way too much and rambling a lot in these types of situations. A similar thing happened when I met Junot Diaz at a book signing. Any author, actually. At the Gallery Night, though, Ken brought up something very interesting about shooting something in a moment that has significance to you. You may be visiting a place in which millions have been before you, but capturing one particular moment makes it yours. Period. It has changed the way I look at photography.
