helplessness blues

I just logged on and saw on my blogger dashboard the thing I was going to post about in the first place. Well, I suppose it's okay that Kirsten posted about it before I did since she was the creator, but I just want to express my gratitude towards her because I freaking love it. Seriously, Kirsten, you almost made me cry! It's so wonderful. I haven't had a chance to show my mom, but I'm sure she'll say the same. You should definitely check out Kirsten's Etsy shop, Botany Boeh. She's awesome so check her out!

What's that, you say? Why, it's a polymer clay model of my manual Pentax K1000. My very first film camera, I love it to death. I don't think I would ever part ways with it, even if it broke. I would find a way to get it fixed. Kirsten did an excellent job on it. It was worth every penny. It's just staring at me, chilling on my desk in front of me.

On the subject of receiving things, I also received my Girls with Cameras Stickers from Mel Stringer. Mel is an amazing illustrator that I follow on Tumblr. Mel is raising money to purchase a video camera so she can make movies. I can feel her pain of being an artist and needing to finance a piece of expensive equipment. The stickers are reasonably priced and I'm honored to finally own some illustrations by Mel. She even included a little personalized note! It was sweet! I have already placed one of the girls on my Moleskine. She looked badass and like she could handle tumbling around in my purse since I carry that one everywhere with me.

Something else very exciting is going on. I have known Annie for about ten years and we both write. I'm doing the 365 project and Annie's been in kind of a writing rut for a bit. I've wanted to collaborate on some sort of creative endeavor with other like-minded individuals and I am so excited that Annie wanted to as well. It's still under construction, but feel free to check back on occasion for prompts, updates, and creative fun. (most work people don't know this, but my family has called me Ellie for years and that's what people closest to me call me) Annie & Ellie Collective

  2. Fleet Foxes are not the type of band that will initially blow you away. Rather, their music has to be chipped away layer by layer before you feel like you have a grasp on it, which is a great thing for an album's longevity. From that standpoint, their music takes effort to enjoy. It has depth and cannot be taken at face value. While "Helplessness Blues" doesn't initially stand out as a classic album I think it has the potential to grow into an album that will stand the test of time and ultimately end up on a lot of "Best of 2011" lists.
