I'm going to try really hard to keep up with this year's 365. I have yet to keep up, but I am hoping that I will be able to succeed this year. This year will be different. This year will be better.
I haven't been on the internet all weekend, except for on my phone. I would come home from work, look at my laptop and just glare, no energy to even lift it onto my bed. All I have had energy for (and this is just barely) is knitting a few rows before succumbing to sleep. I don't recall the Christmas season being this exhausting. It has been taking its toll on everyone harder than it has in years past. I have seen some very strong people crack under the pressure and it hurts my heart. If you're a friend on FB, you may have seen my status about how all we can do is be there for each other and I stand by that--crack a lame joke or do a silly dance. It'll make you, and others laughing with you, feel better.
Wisconsin has been unseasonably warm, once again. It's annoying because I have heavy blankets on my bed that I don't want to take off just because it's not cold enough out. Well, the snow has hit us and the cold snap is hot on its heels (hah, hot, cold...I crack myself up). I had off today so I took in the snow before the cars gunk it all up and it becomes gray. For now, I'll just absorb its pure white bliss and not think about how much it sucks to drive in it. It's all in how you look at things. Stay positive!
The other day, I was G-Chatting with my wonderful friend, Laura, about our craft store experiences. The Michaels I go to is pretty huge and feels dead up until you get to the cash register. Then it seems like everyone decided to check out at the same time. Yesterday was actually the first time I was able to just walk up to the cashier and check out right away, but I guess it was still early in the day. Laura went to a Joann Fabrics near her place in Chicago and said that the checkout line wrapped around the store. Laura always says the greatest things that usually become inside jokes that we use for years ("I thought it was just an expression!" came up at the Beach House show and she first said it ten years again, haha) so when she said,"Bitches be crafty!" I literally laughed out loud, even though we were just typing back and forth.
Being crafty isn't necessarily a bad thing. Talking to a co-worker yesterday, I actually feel like I'm getting stuff done while I catch up on TV and knit at the same time. Yep, a week-long knitter and I've already got my routine down. I don't want to sound like a braggart, but I've been showing my teacher, Mary, my progress every chance I get and she's like,"Dude, you've got talent!" I even added a new ball of yarn all by myself! I'm so proud. It's very rare that I do something and not beat myself up about how I could've done better. 'Tis my burden.
What else am I doing craft-wise? I'm making my first plush! Sweet, beautiful, wonderful dear little Erin is turning 21 (FINALLY!) January first. I've been planning her birthday presents for a very long time. I started a note on my phone in October so I wouldn't forget any good ideas I had, especially since she killed it with my present. I came up with this plush (I won't say what it is because then it'll ruin the surprise) as a way to make something unique and super personal for Erin. I hope she loves it and I look forward to posting about it once she receives it. In the mean time, I'll just continue to be crafty, and you should, too!
If you work retail, you know what I mean. Christmas is being talked about by October. I feel as if it gets earlier and earlier every year. Whatever. Last night, I explored a different mall than the one I work at. It's closer to my house and it's also an outdoor mall. Since it's cold, less people out, hehe. They also always have really pretty decorations I finally thought to photograph. It's been open for six years and this is my first time photographing the decorations? Yeah, I know. I'm crazy. Better late than never, though!
I know I haven't been blogging a whole lot lately. I have been rather active. I'm no longer a hermit! Hah. Well, I have been at home a bit, but hanging out and watching movies. I have also been going to the movie theater a bunch, too. I haven't seen so many movies in the theater in years! I'm not even joking. I have seen Moonrise Kingdom, The Amazing Spiderman, and The Dark Knight Rises twice! In between, I have also watched Drive, Bronson, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty in Pink, and the Animal Collective Movie ODDSAC. It has been a movie filled summer, all in good company and I look forward to more movie watching. Since I've just been watching movies, there haven't been a whole lot of opportunities for pictures. I don't know if I pointed out, but in my sidebar, I have my instagram feed. Username is lightread. I'll try to update with more text posts, like what I have been reading. I haven't been posting a whole lot about that, but I have finished quite a few books. I already updated with my most recent read, Office Girl by Joe Meno. Check it out.
this is where i share my photographs, my rambling thoughts, the books i read, and what i create in the kitchen. if that's not enough information, click here for more.
